I don't mind losing when I have been out played by my opponent, but I was too eager to get my k-side pawn storm going that I missed a simple fork.
12/02/2010 10:15 AM
LinuxGuy said...

It's a trade-off between tactics and simple strategy.

In my last game I was up a knight and rook (and lost on time in a winning position), but I was so focused on tactics that I misjudged how simple the strategic win would have been by comparison. Difficult to turn off that tactics button sometimes in a tactical game.

What I am saying is that you could have done the opposite, seen the fork and missed a strategic win, which seems just as appalling to oneself after the fact.

It takes time on the clock to think about _both_ possibilities. It's easy to think of one or the other and then just play that for the sake of time; or even worse when one doesn't know which they should go for, strategy or tactics. ;-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29536626.post-90263287284249034402010-12-08T18:30:56.027-06:002010-12-08T18:30:56.027-06:00Congrats on breaking your rating high... hope you...Congrats on breaking your rating high... hope you can keep it going!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29536626.post-61383709775175551022010-12-02T11:33:58.189-06:002010-12-02T11:33:58.189-06:00Selby had a chance to win a pawn on move 21 and ha...Selby had a chance to win a pawn on move 21 and have a much better position, but he chose 21...c6 which gave me a chance to equalize:

Wijetunge,I (1886) - Anderson,S (2205) [A45]
San Antonio Corpus Christi (1), 27.11.2010
[,D]

1.d4 Nf6 2.Bf4 d6 3.Nf3 Nbd7 4.e3 g6 5.Be2 Bg7 6.0-0 0-0 7.h3 Qe8 8.c3 [8.Nc3 e5 9.dxe5 dxe5 10.Nb5 exf4 11.Nxc7 Qe4 12.Nxa8 fxe3 13.Nc7 exf2+ 14.Rxf2] 8...e5 9.Bh2 Ne4 10.Nbd2 Nxd2 11.Nxd2 f5 12.Qb3+ Kh8 13.dxe5 Nc5 14.Qa3 [14.Qd5 Be6 15.Qd4] 14...Bxe5 15.Bxe5+ Qxe5 16.Rad1 [16.Nf3 Qe7 17.Qb4 Ne4 18.Qd4+ Qf6 19.Bd3] 16...Bd7 17.Qb4 Rae8 18.Qd4 f4 19.b4 Na4 20.Bf3 [20.Rc1 fxe3 21.fxe3 Rxf1+ 22.Bxf1 Nb6] 20...fxe3 21.fxe3 c6 [21...Nxc3 22.Rc1 Qxd4 23.exd4 Rxf3 24.Nxf3 Ne2+ 25.Kf2 Nxc1 26.Rxc1 c6] 22.Qxe5+ [22.Nc4 Qxd4 23.cxd4] 22...dxe5 23.Ne4 Be6 24.Rd2 Bd5 25.Rc1 [25.Nd6 Re6 26.Nxb7] 25...Bxe4 26.Bxe4 Rd8 27.Rxd8 Rxd8 28.b5 cxb5 [28...Nc5] 29.Bxb7 Rd2 30.c4 bxc4 31.Rxc4 Rxa2 32.Rc8+ Kg7 33.Rc7+ Kf6 34.Rxh7 [34.Bd5 Ra1+ 35.Kf2 Nb6] 34...Nc3 35.Rc7 Nd1 36.Bd5 Ra1 37.Rf7+ Kg5 38.Rf1 Rb1 39.Be4 Rb4 40.Rxd1 Rxe4 41.Ra1 [41.Kf2 a5 42.Rd5 a4 (42...Ra4 43.Rxe5+ Kf6) 43.Kf3 Rc4] 41...Rxe3 42.Rxa7 [42.Kf2] 42...Kf4 43.Kf2 Rb3 44.Rf7+ Kg5 ½-½Ivanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02766013089364074425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29536626.post-83141493793525660992010-12-01T11:39:23.995-06:002010-12-01T11:39:23.995-06:00Nice getting the draw against Anderson.
