Veech has come a big distance in last one year and it seems he is all set to join the group of Brian Luo, Sasha and others. This is very good for Wisconsin chess.
It is a matter of time when somebody like Chess Guy will predict an upset win by me over Veech !!
I have recently begun a chess blog devoted to the Sicilian Defense and looking for some people to trade links with. Would you be interested in linking to each other. You can check out my site at http://www.thesiciliandefense.com
If you are interested I will add you to the blogroll on my homepage.
Ferguson guy is lucky. Playing Class B & C players and collecting points (apart from the two draws which he got with out even playing a game). It would be bad for chess if he wins this tournament.
White Black Parker vs. Hayes Becker vs. Cardenas Veech vs. Ferguson
It's hard to belive that anyone can beat Parker right now given as well as he has been playing. If Hayes did beat Parker and with wins on the other 2 boards, there would be 4 players with 5 points.
Let's hope there would be some sort of playoff (with controversial ending) vs. a tie breaker. I'm guessing from Ivan's post with tiebreakers that will be the way. That would be unfortunate... a playoff would be fun to watch.
parker came out of nowhere does anyone consider parker a top five player in wisconsin. BETANELI PARKER SANTARIUS VAJA VELIKANOV TOP FIVE IN ORDER IN MY OPINION
I am flattered to be put above Parker on the list. :-) Perhaps it's a bit strange to have the State Champion below the most talented and underrated player, but perceptions are indeed personal in nature. And I suppose no one has ever heard of the two-time WI Champion Jeremy Kane. Alex Betaneli
There is only one way to settle all this and that is to have an annual invitational including maybe the top four "active" players in a double round robin.
Its good to see chess doing so well in WI. I miss the thursday night games at SWCC. Its also good to see Anthony Parker playing to the potential I saw a few years ago. He's a good player. I just want to say hi to all of my friends in Wisconsin. I'm hoping to be back playing soon there.
I forgot to mention since I haven't seen anyone in about a year. I got married and expecting a new chess member soon to the family. Its good to see the chess club doing so well. I'm currently in St Paul MN. I cant wait to come home and start playing again.
yes Parker looks like he wants to be the best i'll take Parker as my number 1 pick anyday.Because hes a humbled player,and trust me Parker is in the same tier as vaja betaneli ,and santarius I think he just needs a little more exposure
It appears there were no upsets in the first round. The second round is going to be interesting!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on Board 1 Ivan !
ReplyDeleteIvan,
ReplyDeleteDo you have the pairing for round 3 ?
The pairings will be sent out via e-mail by Allen Becker (TD) either Monday evening or Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteCardenas may take a bye
ReplyDeleteI predict Veech will cause an upset on board 3

Last night, the kids in our club had a happy time.
ReplyDeleteJohn Veech 1813 tied our defending champion--- Allen Becker 2044;
Joanna Huang 1329 beat Partic McElwee 1926;
Wen An 1015 beat David Sagunsky 1809;
Zhexuan Zhou 900 beat Jeffrey Pokoski 1652
The kids at our club all play good chess and are extremely underrated. Everybody seemed to have a good time.
ReplyDeleteThe young people cited above are seemingly underated by anywhere from 100 to 500 points. They are playing good chess right now. --Tom

Parker could give knights odds to Hayes and still win!
ReplyDeleteParker could be the most talented player and the most under rated player in Wisconsin.I think he'll be the best in a couple more years
ReplyDeleteParker says he got to Expert without reading any chess books. He has finaly started reading chess books.
