USCF Results

I finished 3-1 (+ a bye)

I won the Wisconsin Tour Class-A prize.(Thanks to Parker's oversight)

Parker was winning the last round game against the top seed ROBERT JOYNT JR(2305), but thought the first time control was 40/2 instead of 45/2. He made 42 moves and lost on time!

That cost him ~$200( $83 - Wisconsin Tour Class-A + half of (2nd overall $125 + 1st A $100) )

I was disappointed that I lost the following last round game against ERIK F SANTARIUS(2177). I am White with the move. Although I knew better I tried to play for the draw by exchanging off pieces.(Playing for a draw is a sure way to lose!) I should have controlled the open d-file instead. A better way to exchange the knight was to play Nce4 instead of Nd5.

  1. Dear Ivan,

I would like to file a complaint with the CEO of Getting to 2000 USCF. The coverage of this event is not up to par compared with coverage of previous events. You have not provided a list of the top players, their ratings, opponents and first round results. And Do Not Try to blame the time control which allows for a player to play a total of 28 hours of chess in one day! Standards Ivan, Standards.

  2. Ivan move 13 you started with a faulty plan of Ng5 then over the next seven or so moves that knight had gone Ng5,Nf3,Ng5,Ne4,Nc3 ! what a waste of time gives black time to develop his pieces.

Your lacking a plan totally. I doubt you gained much experience from this tournament since you beat players rated lower than you and then took a bye when you would have played a good player maybe in round 3.

  3. Oh no, Jon, many times no! I think losing to Erik in the last round was VERY EDUCATIONAL. Ivan will be well-served to analyze that game for HOURS, without Fritz. Erik and I looked at it for a long time last night and found fascinating things, many turning points. In particular I suggest to Ivan to identify moments when he went from clearly better to slightly better to even to slightly worse to much worse to hopelessly lost. No computer can ever do it for you man!

Congrats on winning A class tour Ivan; you earned it! If a person doesn't know the time control by the end of the tournament, s/he doesn't deserve a prize. BTW, Parker lost MORE than you state: it would have have 2nd place COMBINED with A class money, so the total is closer to $200 total. :-)

  5. Ivan,

Congrats on Class A prize. I agree with Alex when you do not know a time control you do not deserve to win anything, in the last round too!

  6. Thanks, It was a very interesting race for the Class A prize with lots of twists and turns.

Joel Kenny helped out by not playing! and Parker handed the prize to me by not knowing the time control!

  7. Well, if Kenny had played, I would probably have won the Class B prize; but, alas, it was not to be.

  8. Alex,

I was wondering if you could share some of the things you and Eric discovered about this game.

    Thanks

    Ivan
