Waukesha Chess Club Championship

4 Round Swiss, G/90. The Open Section has 20 players, the U-1600 18.
The last round is scheduled for April 8.
CLARK O MCCUTCHIN Wins clear first

Rnd 2
(March 25) William Williams (2200) vs. me
The obvious move is N g4 when I think that Black has a small edge. For some reason that I can't understand I played f4?? , losing a pawn for nothing.

Rnd 1 (March 18) S.Dill (1533) vs. me
I had this very unbalanced & interesting position. I have an extra pawn, but my king is stuck in the middle, he has a bishop & I have a knight. It looks like I can make use of the open/half open files first. I was looking forward to a intriguing battle when he blundered with Rxd5.

Last year's tournament was held as 8 person round robins. Alexander Velikanov & William Williams tied for first with 6-1=0. That was also the section in which I lost all 7 games! Click here for the cross table.

  1. Ivan,

Do you have a list of all the participants for this years championship? Was just curious to see who all was playing.

  2. Jim,

You guys can still play with a .5 bye for round 1?

  3. I'm not going to be able to play but maybe one week...so it really doesn't make much sense to play just one round. I was planning on coming down until I saw the tournament was only one game a week.

  4. Ivan, I understand there are mostly adult players visiting your blog but the scholastic state championship was this weekend and I know there were some familiar young faces participating in that event. Any chance Alex or Ashish have some games of their students to share? I enjoy seeing games and position analysis on your pages.
    Thanks

  7. Hey, C.K. I don't think that was the analysis they were looking for.

  8. Just so you know that position was dead won for you anyways. What do you mean your king is stuck in the middle? That's where its safest, safely shielded behind your beautiful pawns. You have a MUCH better knight than his bishop.

  9. Ivan, have you considered trying to "link" to another site that is covering current GM games and tournaments? That could provide a nice way to get some game analysis and discussion between WI Events.

  10. Most links are on the right.

    Most people know about:

    Susan Polgar

    Chessbase

    USCF

    etc.

  11. Right, but how about not having to leave your page to see the games? That's what I was looking for.

  12. I think what Anon 3/26/2009 8:57 is trying to say is that he wants to see games played by you and/or other Wisconsin players.

  16. Ivan, can you Blog on the Progress of WI players at SuperNationals? I see WI has 10% of the top 10% in the K-5 Championship division, that seems promising. I only ask because I can't seem to locate anywhere online to see results and pairings for the rounds.
